Educate, Engage, Empower
SCDSB Kenya Study and Leadership Program
A passion for active local and global citizenship can be passed onto our children by bringing social issues alive in the classroom and community.
The Simcoe County District School Board and Me to We Trips have joined forces to provide local high school students with the opportunity to travel to Kenya to build rural schools, while completing two secondary school credits. The program is based at the Barrie Learning Centre and the Kenya School of the Savannah, which is located on the edge of the Maasai Mara. This exciting leadership and volunteer program is available to all grade 11 and 12 high school students in our school board. Students complete a preparatory study program prior to the trip, which involves educating students about themes such as Millennium Development Goals, International Human Rights, health care, child labour, culture, education and Third World countries. Students learn through interactive lessons, social media, guest speakers, relevant readings and volunteering.
Applications will be accepted until November 1, 2011.
